Timothy C. Rodell, M.D.
Chief Executive Officer and President

Dr. Rodell has been President and Chief Executive Officer of GlobeImmune, Inc., since 2004.  From 1999 until 2002, Dr. Rodell was President and Chief Executive Officer of RxKinetix, Inc., a private drug delivery company that was sold to Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc.  From 1996 until 2000, he held a number of positions at OXIS International, Inc., including Chief Technology Officer and Chairman and President of OXIS International, SA, the Company’s French subsidiary, and led the Company’s IPO on the Nouveau Marché of the Paris Bourse.  From 1985 until 1995, Dr. Rodell was Executive Vice President of Operations and Product Development for Cortech, Inc. where he led all development of three clinical programs and co-led the Company’s successful IPO.  Dr. Rodell is a founder of Barofold, Inc., a protein re-folding company and Managing Partner of SMG, Inc., a healthcare consulting company. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and on the BIO Emerging Companies and Health Sections Governing Boards.  Before moving to industry, Dr. Rodell practiced academic Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.  Dr. Rodell earned his M.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1980. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Colorado and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine as well as being a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He completed post-doctoral fellowships in molecular biology and cell biology at the Eleanor Roosevelt Cancer Institute and the Webb Waring Institute respectively.

David Apelian, M.D., Ph.D., MBA
Senior Vice President Research & Development and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Apelian joined GlobeImmune, Inc. as Vice President, Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs and Chief Medical Officer in January 2005.  Dr. Apelian’s therapeutic area experience includes hepatitis B, hepatitis C, oncology, and inflammatory bowel disease.   Prior to joining GlobeImmune, Dr. Apelian served as a Clinical Director in the Infectious Diseases Group at Bristol-Myers Squibb from 2002 until 2004, where he was medical lead for the clinical development, NDA filing and approval of Baraclude (entecavir) in chronic hepatitis B (HBV).  From 1999 until 2002, Dr. Apelian served as Clinical Director in the Department of Hepatology / Gastroenterology at Schering Plough where he was medical lead on the pediatric sNDA for Rebetron for chronic hepatitis C (HCV).  Before joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Apelian practiced medicine at New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center from 1996 until 1999.  Dr. Apelian received his M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University, and an M.B.A. from Quinnipiac University. Dr. Apelian earned a B.A. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University in 1987.  Dr. Apelian is board certified in Pediatrics.

C Jeffrey Dekker
Vice President, Finance

Jeff DekkerMr. Dekker is GlobeImmune’s Vice President, Finance, having joined the company as Senior Director, Finance in February 2006.  Prior to working at GlobeImmune, Mr. Dekker has held leadership positions in finance and accounting at private software companies since 1993, including Corporate Controller to Vice President at Webroot Software Inc., Requisite Technology Inc. and NxTrend Technology, Inc.   Mr. Dekker was Manager, General Accounting at ITT Rayonier Port Angeles Pulp Division, Port Angeles, Washington from 1989 to 1993. Prior to 1989, he was a Senior Accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick in Los Angeles. Mr. Dekker earned a B.S. in accounting in 1986 from Utah State University and is a certified public accountant.

John Frenz, Ph.D.
Vice President, Operations

Dr. Frenz joined GlobeImmune, Inc. as Vice President, Operations in 2006.  Prior to joining GlobeImmune, Dr. Frenz was at Genentech, Inc. for 17 years where he held a variety of leadership roles in process development and manufacturing operations, including Plant Manager of Biochemical Manufacturing.  In that position he was responsible for the production of all Genentech’s clinical products and approximately half its commercial products.  Dr. Frenz has extensive experience in the production and characterization of biotechnology products, and is a member of the Permanent Committee of the WCBP Symposium, the premier venue for interactions between industry and regulatory agency representatives on emerging characterization and process development issues.  Dr. Frenz earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Yale University in 1983.  He also holds a M.S. in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T. and an undergraduate degree from Yale College in Engineering and Applied Science.
